AUGUSTA, Maine — The Land Use Regulation Commission will discuss Plum Creek and the agency’s update to its comprehensive plan during meetings this week.

On Tuesday, commission members will discuss the latest draft of Plum Creek’s controversial 30-year development plan for land the company owns in the Moosehead Lake region.

The commission endorsed Plum Creek’s concept plan for 975 house lots, two resorts and more than 400,000 acres of conservation land last October, but LURC staff are still developing the final language of the complex agreement.

LURC director Catherine Carroll said the purpose of Tuesday’s deliberative session is to go over the language and identify any additional tweaks that are needed. Carroll said she hopes to bring a final plan to the commission as early as the July meeting.

“It’s still a draft, but I think we are 99 percent there,” Carroll said Thursday.

Because the document is only a concept plan, Plum Creek will be required to come back to the commission for individual subdivision and resort development plans before beginning construction.

The deliberative session will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor. The meeting is open to the public, but the commission will not be accepting public comment.

On Wednesday, the commission will continue discussing the ongoing update of the agency’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan. The update has been highly contentious because of disagreement over language concerning development trends and recreation in the Unorganized Territory.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Spectacular Event Center, 395 Griffin Road in Bangor.
